Hour of Code Minecraft workshop ages 8+

Find us on Level 1 between Dick’s Sporting Goods and H&M. Free, ninety-minute workshop to take part in the global Hour of Code movement. Using the power of code, students aged 8 and up will explore aquatic worlds and uncover hidden treasure with the new Minecraft Voyage Aquatic tutorial. By the end of the workshop, students will be able to: *Create a list of coding instructions *Instruct a computer to perform tasks in a sequence *Test and refine their coding instructions to uncover hidden underwater treasure Register today as workshops fill up quickly. The parent, legal guardian, or authorized adult caregiver of every workshop participant under 17 years of age must sign a Participation Agreement upon arrival and remain in Microsoft Store for the duration of the event. No experience with Minecraft or coding is required.

Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University at Buffalo.
Davis Hall, UB North Campus. Attendees (Grades K – 12) will be able to explore computer science through hands-on activities and live demonstrations of projects created by current CSE students.

Create cool 3D holiday art ages 8+

Find us on Level 1 between Dick’s Sporting Goods and H&M. The world we live in is multidimensional, so shouldn’t our art be as well? Student ages 8+ will bring their imagination to life by creating cool holiday art with 3D in Windows 10. This free 1-hour workshop offers a high-energy, collaborative environment for participants to fuel their creativity and have fun this holiday season. By the end of this workshop, participants will have: *Learn how to use key tools from 3D for Windows 10 so they can continue to create 3D art projects at home or school. *Feel confident how to wow people by showing their holiday 3D art in View Mixed Reality. *Mastered how to access their 3D art project via Remix3D.com This workshop lasts one hour. The parent, legal guardian, or authorized adult caregiver of every Camp participant under 17 years of age must sign a Participation Agreement upon arrival and remain in Microsoft Store for the duration of the event. No experience with the Creators Update is required.

Discovery Camp: Chemical Concoctions (Grades K-8)
Buffalo Museum of Science, 1020 Humboldt Parkway , Buffalo, NY 14211. Put on your lab coats, roll up your sleeves and get ready to have a bubbly good time mixing up all kinds of powdery and wet ingredients. Chemistry will ooze between your fingers and run down your arms during this 3-day camp! Grades: K-8 (Campers will be divided in classrooms by grade level) Cost: $144 per camper (BMS members save 10%)

Buffalo Zoo, Are you looking for a place where your child(ren) can have loads of fun over their holiday break? Why not bring them to Winter Camp Workshops at the Buffalo Zoo! Morning and afternoon workshops allow great family flexibility; sign up for one half-day session, a full day or all six workshops. Giraffes: Ages 5-6, Rhinos: Ages 7-8, Elephants: Ages 9-12

Creating connections with Dear Evan Hansen workshop ages 13+

Microsoft Store and the Tony award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen are partnering to provide a free, two-hour workshop for students ages 13 and up who want to authentically connect to themselves, friends, family, and their communities. Dear Evan Hansen has received critical acclaim and has inspired conversation about mental health and the perils of living in a society hyperconnected by social media, which can often feel lonely. Workshop participants will define what it means to make authentic connections and explore ways to create those connections. Students choose how they want to connect and will use Microsoft tools to research and create an actionable plan for reaching out. In this workshop, participants will: *Define what making a connection means to them. *Demonstrate turning goals into a clear and meaningful action plan. *Use Office 365 especially the latest features in PowerPoint and Windows 10 apps to research, create, and share their action plan. The parent, legal guardian, or authorized adult caregiver of every workshop participant under 17 years of age must sign a Participation Agreement upon arrival and remain in Microsoft Store for the duration of the event. No prior experience with the Microsoft applications is necessary.
